Untrustworthy service department and poor customer service from manager

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My wife and I got her Scion ia and have used their services for almost 2 full years. Unfortunately, we missed that we were being ripped off until now. Naturally, today they lost our trust and our business. Each time the maintenance came on, they replaced our oil as well as rotated our tires. Today, the person working the desk, who had only been there one month, brought to our attention our oil was being changed 2,000 miles early each time. The check engine light was only for standard tire rotation. After charging us full price today after they changed the oil again, I insisted we not have to pay since they over used our free warranty oil changes based on their miscalculated services. I spoke to their manager who was condescending and eventually began to say "I can't answer the questions you don't ask," me which translates to...you trusted our service department to do the right thing and we betrayed your loyalty and have 0 qualms about rectifying our mistake.

2016 Scion - Im Car Review from Auburndale, Florida

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I just got a brand new 2016 scion im and as soon as i signed the contract of purchase of the car, i noticed the smell from the ac. I rold the dealer about that and i took back for a service but they said nothing wrong because the ac pressures are normal. But now when its on rainy days it smells like a spoilled milk in the car. And smells come out even not using ac. I still can use ac, but if i use it, my face turns to be very sick and pale. I really can not believe whats happened with my new car... This is the second scion and my first scion xa still runs good over 11 years with no mechanical problems. I really can not believe it the fact the new scion's ac evaporator seems not working.

Scion - WORST COSTUMER SERVICE AND CARS
i got a brand new 2016 scion iA, i fell in love with it until after 6 months of ownership and less than 7,000 miles my display screen started to turn off while i was driving it! ive gone to the dealership three times to get it fixed and they tell me since they dont see what goes on they cant do anything to fix it! the costumer service is beyond lazy, unprofessional and rude! i have several videos of my screen turning off while i am driving it and they keep insisting that nothing is wrong with it! i know my car ive had it for a little over 6 months so i know that something is wrong with it, but because they dont want to get off of their lazy butts and find the problem im having to be terrified that something else might go wrong with it!

2011 Xb transmission out with 35,360 miles on odometer.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I own a 2011 Scion Xb with 35,360 gentky used miles on it and check engine light came on. Took it to dealership and they said it would cost $5000.00 to replace it and that I am 1 month and 6 days beyond the 60 month/60,000 mile factory warranty. Also when I contacted Scion directly, being that I do have the vehicle regularly serviced just not at Toyota facilities that they would not work with me with regards to the warranty. I've been told that the issue is a solenoid within the transmission that needs to be replaced and not the whole transmission. That is what I call precise planned obsolescence.

The engine on my 09 scion tc blew in 2013. The dealer was no help except to give an estimate of 6-7000 for a new engine.

My husband and 2 sons are mechanics so we got a used 09 Scion tc engine for 3500 with 20,000 less miles on it than the original one and replaced it ourselves. Here we are again 2016.Four weeks ago had an oil change and the engine went AGAIN! Now there is a Oil Consumption Program in place that will replace the engine but we DO NOT qualify because engine is not original to the car.

The company will do nothing even tho the first engine was replaced due to the same issue! I do not understand the issue is with the engine NOT the body of the car.

Spoke to Naomi in customer care that gave me the same run around and refused the following - a) allowing me to speak to her supervisor b) the name of anyone else in Toyota customer care that I could write to c) the address to their legal department d) stated that their position is final on faulty parts that break 3 months after their supposed warranty extension expires e) refused to let me know where the extension warranty letter was mailed to. Absolutely no help or goodwill whatsoever. They are probably broke from fixing the hundreds of other recalls made by Toyota so they couldn't care less about Scion. Hopefully my Toyota/Scion dealer can cut me a break. They, unlike Toyota, have been wonderful throughout the years.

Review from Saint Louis, Missouri

I have a 2008 scion tc. The rear hatch garnishment broke on my car. Scion offered a warranty extension due to the part being defective. We'll literally a month after the extended warranty expired mine broke. I am a 130lb female who merely tried lifting to hatch. I called customer service and was told nothing could be done for me. So I asked to talk to a supervisor who didn't accept my opinion, told me I was wrong, and I'm going to have to get used to buying parts for cars after the warranty. Which is done I expect to do so. But not with a defective part. If you read online this is a very common problem. I can say I will never buy another Toyota again. Toyota is a brand name you associate with having long lasting dependable cars. I guess they did away with that and produce cars with defective parts that they are not willing to fix.

OIL CONSUMPTION

I am a 51 year old man who knows a lot about vehicles, not a young person to young to know whats going on. I have an 09 scion Xb and have owned since new. I never sat down and read my entire owners manual and should not ever have to. At about 40,000 miles I noticed when I changed my oil that I was about a quart low but thought somehow when I changed it the last time that I didn't put in enough, I changed it and then about a month later I checked it and it was low again. I went online and saw so many people that have the same problem and it really upset me that the one and only new car I have ever owned would be like this. I don't care if they put it in the manual that it is normal for it to use oil ( it isn't ) that is just their way of saving themselves millions of $$ by not having to repair them. I find it hard to believe that some lawyer out there hasn't filed a lawsuit against scion yet because I think scion would have to pay thousands of people thousands of $$ for their deceivery, if that's a word. I have not had any other problems with my xb in 103,000 mile but this one problem makes me disscusted with them. I sure hope someday they pay for the wool they pulled over our eyes.

You have over a 100k on the car and it uses a quart of oil between oil changes. Not a big deal nor a problem.

That is considered normal by the companies and I question your complaint about something trivial like this.

You make it sound as if the car is a danger to you and the public everytime you start it up. Time to relax.

It uses over 3 quarts and has for a while. car is babied not abused. 100,000 miles is not a lot these days.

866-707-**** Call Didn't Go Well

I was about 12 minutes into making a complaint, when I was transferred to a computer generated system. I was trying to make a formal complaint about TSB #302369 when the guy I was talking to transferred me to a computer. He had already put me on hold several times. I waited patiently when he put me on hold but when he got tired of me, he got rid of the call. When I called the dealer they told me my car was out of warranty so I would have to pay for the repair. In March 2011 when TSB #302369 was issued, my car was still covered under the Certified warranty.

Oil consuming nightmare

Bought the only brand new vehicle I have ever owned in 2008, A 2009 scion xb, Loved the car until after about 45000 miles I noticed one day my oil level was low so I guessed I didn't put enough in on my last oil change. But that was not the case, I have to check the oil about every 3 weeks and it usually needs about 3/4 of a qt.That is a lot of oil to use and I don't care if they say a qt. in 1200 miles is within tolerences , they are just keeping themselves out of trouble by saying this. They should fix evey one of these vehicles regaurdless of the miles on them. Mine now has aout 91000 on it, it still runs pretty good but If you forget to constantly check your oil like some others have it may never run again. Toyota, you should be ashamed of yourself and you should lose a lot of customers because of this.

MY SCION XB NEEDS NEW ENGINE AT 64,000 MILES

Scion has an oil consumption problem with these vehicles and they know it is a problem. It usually starts burning too much oil right before the 60,000 miles which is when the warranty expires. My Scion oil light did not come on, the check engine light did not come on, but it began ticking very loud and we checked the oil level and it did not even register on the dipstick. We were about 800 miles past the 5000 mark for changing the oil, but we just got married that weekend and never expected my engine to blow up from going 5800 miles between oil changes. We added oil but the engine started knocking so we took it to the dealer, with pages of complaints from other consumers, and hoped that because this is a known problem with this vehicle we would get some help. We were told that they needed to charge $415 to look at it, but we wouldn't have to pay because in their experience, Toyota/Scion always helps people in this situation. Nope, they came back and said that it was the owners fault. In these cars, if the oil is even a little bit low, when you go around a corner and the oil sloshes to one side, that can be enough to dry up the engine and cause the motor to blow. Yes, that is obviously my fault! I should have known that I needed to add oil each time I started my vehicle. They said we should have been checking our oil level every time we get gas! I am 23 with a 3 year old son. My husband just got out of the Marines and is going to school and I am going to school and working. We have an old Ford Ranger 3 seater that now we are driving with my son's carseat in the front by the door, and sharing a car between us to go to school and work. They want $10,000 to replace the engine or they will give me $5,000 to take the car back. I owe $14,000 on the car and I have good credit. We were planning on buying our first home when my husband finishes school but this is going to force me to give the car back and have a repo on my credit. DONT BUY A SCION. IF YOU OWN A SCION AND YOU STILL HAVE YOUR WARRANTY, GO TO THE DEALER AND TELL THEM YOU WANT THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. CHECK YOUR OIL CONSTANTLY AND DON'T GO BEYOND THE 5000 OIL CHANGE. KEEP ALL RECORDS OF YOUR MAINTENANCE.

I just checked my son scion xb oil was fine. I use full synthetic oil which is good for 15,000.

he is just coming up on a year that we bought this. original owner said it burned oil I took it to my mechanic and we did a complete go through changed the spark plugs which he advised is why is was burning oil. So needless to say yesterday on his way back to school (from Pahrump to Reno}he heard a knocking a babied it into Tonopah were he was pulled over by police as the noise was so loud. the engine threw a rod.

IO know for a fact that the oil was fine and not low one bit. So how the *** did he throw a rod.?

The same thing happened to us around the 60,000 mile point. The car has been in our garage for over a year now. We still owe $12k.

Guest

"dont buy a Scion"? I drive my Scion XB over 20k miles/year and no problems whatsoever.

It has the same Engine as the 09. I do my own oil changes and never see a problem. 3 years now and not a repair. I live in Michigan..

so its been through extreme cold and heat each year. My best friend has an 05 and almost 200k miles and he has only had to repair the exhaust. No engine problems, and he has a lead foot...

we are always hauling upwards to 500lbs of band equipment around too. Just sayin...

Guest

This happened to our 2011 Toyota Scion XB. My son was driving it regularly and had just gotten an oil change less than a month earlier.

He said the car was ticking loudly and then just froze up, too. Does anyone know about later years for Scion XBs?

I think there are a lot of lucky people... and a few unlucky.

I wonder how many unlucky get screwed by the oil change shops.

I dont trust someone to do a good job when they are expected to get it done in 15 minutes for $10/hr.

My 05 Scion xB has 390K miles on the engine!! It runs exactly as it did when I bought it.

It doesn't burn oil, smoke or leak. It just runs!!

My complaints about the car are typical: the split rear air dam falls off, the rear liftgate handle breaks, the doorlock solenoids go bad. It is a manual, and outside of fanbelts, the alternator, and one clutch, I have not had to change or fix another thing.

Poor customer service at Toyota Scion of Bend, OR

Took my car in for an oil change a few weeks ago. I had made an appointment in advance. They still kept my car for 4 1/2 hours. I thought the purpose of making an appointment was to avoid such a long wait. When I asked about the wait they said it was because they needed to break for lunch. They recommended a few additional services, very minor things like changing a filter and flushing some fluids. They failed to tell me in advance their recommended services would add $200. I don't think I will be back. Plenty of other qualified people in the area who can work on my car. Why waste my time and money here?

Wagner Toyota Lancaster Double Charges Diagnostics Fee

Norm Wagnor Toyota & Scion Our toyota tacoma failed inspection due to a faulty air bag sensor. I was told by Toyota Corporation to bring it to a local Toyota Dealer for diagnostics. We went to Norm Wagnor Toyota on the Lancaster/Leominster line and paid $94.00 for the diagnostic test which revealed a faulty airbag sensor and a faulty tire sensor (both lights were on). Well, this we knew because the manual and the lights tell us that WITHOUT the $94.00 fee. So we scheduled a service appointment for the next day to have the faulty air bag sensor replaced. The charge was $454.79 which included a labor fee of $188.00. In addition they charged another $94.00 diagnostic fee which they call a labor charge. I went back to the dealer and disputed this charge hopeing they would reverse the charge. They did NOT do so. They told me they had to take all four tires off to get the sensor numbers and put them into the computer and then hit the reset button to make the light go off. My son had new tires installed a few weeks ago and it is common for the tire sensor light to go on while replacing tires. My question to them was "why didn't you do that the other day when I was here and you had the tires off and I waited for 1 1/2 hours in the lobby while they did diagnostics.....at that time they told me the cable was broken. WELL, the cable was not broken and it took a simple reset and a DOUBLE LABOR CHARGE..... I call this unfair and deceptive practice. We currently own four toyota's that have all been purchased from one dealer in the Worcester area. That dealer (Herb Chambers) and our salesperson (Tim Dalton) are honest, reputable and care about their customers. I can NOT say the same thing about Norm Wagnor Toyota. We had occasion to visit their showroom when we were looking to purchase the Tacoma. We could not get a price on a vehicle without providing our license, social security number and address. NOT A TEST DRIVE, a price! When I asked to see the manager he told me that is their policy....hmm, do you think they were running the credit in the back room without a customer's permission? Why else would they need a social security number before they give you a price. Their sales people are aggressive and obnoxious. We left the showroom, drove to Herb Chambers, drove a few Tacoma's without the hype or SS# and purchased on the spot.......WAGNOR is the worst Toyota dealer in the area. Stay away if you don't want to get fleeced for service. Signed, A Very Unhappy Customer
